I just received this great question on Twitter about using Morrocco Method Organic Shampoos. Thanks so much Victoria!
momsnkidshealth @LivingEarthLive Hi there – wondering if you have any usage instructions for the Morrocco Method shampoos – is there a transition period?
Transitioning
Because Morrocco Method products are Organic, Vegan, and chemical-free, there can be a detoxification transition period. Often when one moves away from chemical laden shampoos, the hair follicles will begin letting go of toxins. Yes, hair can detox too! This means, it is possible to experience a short period of slightly less than glorious results before you start having GLORIOUS results.
Using Morrocco Method Shampoos
(The following text is courtesy of Morrocco Method Int’l)Rotation
Morrocco Method 5 Elements Shampoos are designed to be used in rotation so that all aspects of hair and scalp can be nourished and maintained. Pine Shale (Air) and Apple Cider Vinegar (Fire) Shampoos nourish the hair and stimulate growth. Sea Essence (Water) and Earth Essence (Earth) Shampoos detoxify and regenerate hair and scalp. Heavenly Chi energizes and conditions. Rotate all five for maximum care โ Pine Shale today, Apple Cider Vinegar tomorrow, Sea Essence the next day, then Earth Essence, finally Heavenly Chi, and then back to Pine Shale Shampoo to continue the rotation cycle. Regularly alternating shampoos helps to keep the hair and scalp receptive and responsive, insuring a thorough cleansing and nourishing every time they are used.
Two Steps to Gorgeous Hair
A perfect shampoo is achieved in two parts. The first shampooing cleanses hair and scalp of dirt, dead cells and dust, which you would otherwise massage back into the hair, scalp and follicle openings if you shampooed only once. This clogging debris could retard new hair growth and severely damage the oil glands, upsetting the natural fall-out and reproductive cycles of your hair.
The second shampooing and massage of your clean hair and scalp stimulates the flow of blood to the scalp and opens the hair follicles, allowing the blood vessels to feed each root, bulb and hair shaft, nourishing the entire follicle and activating the sebaceous (oil) glands. This ensures the proper lubrication and distribution of your own natural oils to the entire scalp and hair shafts. A natural coating of oil is vital to the maintenance of a healthy scalp and hair. It keeps the outer layer of hair lubricated and prevents drying, which is the excessive evaporation of moisture.
Step One: Wet your hair, then apply a nickel-sized portion of shampoo to your scalp. Massage it lightly into your hair and scalp, and then rinse thoroughly, using warm water.
Step Two: After rinsing, take a quarter-size portion of the same shampoo and massage it gently into your clean hair and scalp for a second cleansing, then rinse thoroughly, finishing with a cool rinse. Towel dry hair and scalp thoroughly. Your hair is now ready to be brushed and styled.

UPDATE November 23, 2011:
I have been experimenting more with the shampoos lately. I, too, had very oily hair when I first started using them. I have discovered that the key to getting hair really clean, with no oil build-up, is to use a much larger amount than the normal recommended amount and more than you would with a lathering shampoo. At least during the “detox” period. Completely and entirely saturate your hair and scalp with the Morrocco Method Shampoo and scrub scalp and hair thoroughly with your fingertips. Use far more than a nickel or quarter size if you are experiencing oily, greasy, or weighed-down hair – use enough to entirely saturate your hair. If you find that your hair is still very oily after it dries, next time you shampoo, do this process 2 times – shampoo, rinse, shampoo again, rinse.
I hope this helps those of you with oily hair concerns!
[…] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Jill, Jill. Jill said: @momsnkidshealth I just answered your question on my blog: http://blog.livingearthbeauty.com/2010/01/how-to-use-morrocco-method-shampoos/ […]
Thanks so much for this clarification, Jill – that’s the information I couldn’t find for some reason (the two-step info). I haven’t used chemical shampoos for probably 12 years, possibly longer, so maybe the transition is just me not using enough product? Or too much? On that note, I’ve got one more question for you! :o) – do you need to use a bit more for long hair? I would assume so, but since it doesn’t lather, it’s hard to know how much to use. Just experiment til the hair feels ‘right’ afterwards? My scalp is already feeling better (wasn’t so happy beforehand), and my hair is bouncier and seems to have more volume – but for the first couple of days, it didn’t feel ‘clean’. I’ll keep experimenting and report back… Thanks again!
Hi Victoria,
Yes, your instinct is right – from my experience, you do need to use a bit more than you would a concentrated lathering shampoo. I have long hair too and found that I need more than a ‘traditional’ shampoo to get that clean feeling. Let me know how it goes.
Warmly,
Jill
Thanks for this great post about Morrocco Method.
I’ve been using Morrocco Method products for years and I too went through that “awkward” stage of detoxing but after a few weeks the change was amazing so stay the course and you won’t regret it.
Dear Jill,
Thanks so much for your blog on Morrocco Method hair products! The detox phase as you go from non-organic to organic can take some time and this is because the oil glands are out of balance with the rest of the growth pattern. We suggest to simply keep alternating the shampoos and to use our scalp massager. Lastly, the Zen Detox can help quicken this transition phase.
Thank you for going truly natural,
Anthony Morrocco
Hello I would love to buy Morocco Method, but I have a question, do you know the shelf life of their shampoos??
Hi there! Thanks for the great question! The shelf life is 3 years. There are 92 trace minerals in each shampoo, acting as fantastic preservatives.
You can find these wonderful products HERE.
Warm wishes,
Jill
I’ve been using MM shampoos and conditioner for awhile. I use to shampoo every day before MM. Now I can go 7-10 days between shampoos. Should I be shampooing every day with MM or is my routine okay? I can wet my hair and brush and my hair looks like I shampooed that morning. Thanking you in advance.
Thanks so much for connecting, Tommy! I’m so glad to hear about how well the shampoos are working for you. If your routine is working for you, there is no reason to change it. You definitely don’t have to use the shampoos every day. How ever often works for your hair is just fine. Thank you so much! Warm wishes to you.
Hi Jill,
I am brand new to MM. Today was my second day. I have very fine long blonde hair, my scalp tends to be really greasy so I have to wash everyday but my strands are a little dry…naturally it has been hard to find a balance.
I’ve noticed the shampoo’s are more mositurizing and the conditioners feel very brittle (my hair is not very manageable after I am done washing it). What is the best use for the conditioners? I read a lot about the shampoos but no one comments on the conditioners? Are the shampoos alone supposed to be enough?
Any help would be great. Thank you.
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks so much for getting in touch!
MM shampoos can be tricky if you tend to have greasy scalp. You will need to use more of the shampoo each time you wash and wash at least twice, while scrubbing your scalp pretty well. My hair gets pretty oily too, so I also use the foaming shampoo we carry, it is 100% pure (no SLS) and so wonderful: Seabuckthorn Shampoo. You could alternate with this if you find your hair is staying too greasy over time, or just use it at the scalp and use MM shampoos for the rest of the hair.
With MM shampoos, unlike other shampoos, conditioners are not 100% necessary because they do not lather or strip the hair at all and do not open the hair follicle to cleanse it. Most Shampoos are designed to cleanse the hair follicle and then the conditioner seals it, so it’s good to use a conditioner for hair health with any type of lathering shampoo. You might try just using the conditioner only on the areas of your hair that seem to need it, like the ends and see how the works for you.
What conditioner/s are you using? Also, what do you mean by “not very manageable” – what quality is it – too dry, too greasy, etc?
Thanks so much!
Warmly,
Jill
Hi Jill,
I really appreciate your help. I did a lot of research on MM before buying and everything I read and the feedback I got from the people at MM themselves insisted that after a “detox” period my hair would be great. Today is my 4th day now and my hair is really greasy, heavy and limp. I am hoping this is just part of the process, is there a recommended time period to keep trying before realizing it may not be the right product? I am very determined to get healthy, shiny, full of body hair so I will do whatever I need!
I am going to go ahead and try the shampoo you recommended and rotate that in. If you have any other recommnedations I will take them! By not very manageable I meant that it feels a little brittle and can be hard to brush. I was using the creme rinse (just on my ends) the first two days and just the Diamond Mist spray these last two dads. Today wasn’t as bad for brushing because my hair is oil all over.
The one saving grace is that although my hair is flat and lifeless, you cannot really tell it’s greasy unless you are right up close or I lift the top layer!
Thanks so much Jill!
Hi Jennifer,
Thank you, Tommy, for your great advice! I agree. I understand the frustration, Jennifer! Give Tommy’s advice a try and see how it goes for a couple weeks if you can. I truly understand the challenge – I have oily hair too and it’s long as well, and that’s why I recommended rotating in the Seabuckthorn Shampoo in to help relieve some of the oil buildup. For a woman with long hair, being out and about with super greasy hair is not super fun. Yes, like Tommy mentioned Zen Detox should help a lot, as well as rotating the shampoos and using the lighter conditioner (Chi Instant) or just the Diamond Mist for now. Keep me updated on how it’s going!
Warmly,
Jill
Jennifer: It took more than a few days for your hair to reach it’s current condition so naturally it’s not going from one extreme to the other over night. Use the five shampoos in rotation then condition with the Chi Instant Conditioner per MM instructions. You may want to try the Zen Detox mix the night before you shampoo. Good luck!
Hi, I just discovered MM and it’s really great! I have super oily hair. With conventional shampoos and conditioners I was greasy every 12 hours! I have to use more than a dime or quarter size of each of the shampoos. I bought the trial package and I used at least an ounce if not a little bit more than that each time I wash my hair. I have long (past my shoulders) thin, poker straight oily hair. I wondered if I was wasting the shampoo, but it seems to be working by using that much. My hair is clean and shiny. I have a little bit of dandruff, but I think that is my scalp detoxing from all the crap products over the years. Thanks for this review and shampoo how to.
Hi Lindsay! Thanks for your comment! You are definitely on the right track. I’m glad to hear that your hair is already improving, and yes, it sounds like your scalp is detoxing. Keep with it, the results will be worth it!
All the best to you,
Jill
Hi there! I’m thinking about giving MM a shot. I’m 22 and have a full head of blond frizz brittle hair. It’s thinned a lot the last two years making it difficult to spike and am starting to recede on both sides of my forehead. I believe a lot of it has to do with the stress i’ve had. Just wondering if this method could help me out any..maybe regrow some of the hair where it has receded or atleast thicken up what i still have? (which is quite a bit)
Would the (air) and (fire) be the best shampoo’s or would they only contribute well with the other 3? Thanks a bunch, whatever can help i do appreciate.
Hi Vince,
Yes, Morrocco Method products are made specifically to help regrow hair! I recommend the Zen Detox Hair & Scalp Therapy and a rotation of all five of the shampoos for maximum care. As far as shampoo rotation: Pine Shale today, Apple Cider Vinegar tomorrow, then Heavenly Chi, Sea Essence the next day, then Earth Essence, then back to Pine Shale Shampoo to continue the rotation cycle. If you’d like to start with only two shampoos that’s okay too. It’s just that the five are recommended for maximum results. Also try massaging your scalp regularly. I’ll be writing a more complete article on hair loss very soon, so stay tuned to the blog, as well.
Thanks!
Jill
Best wishes,
Hi! I just started with MM and got the Sea Essence Shampoo and the Sapphire Volumizer Mist Conditioner. My hair is about 2″ past my shoulders, thin and medium blonde. Before I made the switch I was using Nioxin for thin hair (I have split ends and my hair is dry – have to wash it every day or else it gets greasy at the top).
Anyway, I’m now on day 7 of using MM and I’m wondering when I’m going to see positive results because every time I shampoo, it feels like my hair ends up so thickly oily. It feels different to the touch, takes at least twice as long to blow-dry, and it’s like there’s some kind of thick, oily styling gel in it. I was blow drying my thin bangs and if I brushed them straight out, they stayed that way!
Every day since I started MM (including the conditioning spray) my hair is absolutely flat to my head with no volume at all, looks greasy and unwashed, and feels icky to run my hands through like there is excess oily product in it.
I’ve made so many positive health changes in my life and really wanted to get a natural hair care system. I realize there’s a detox period, but am wondering how long that will be or if maybe I’m using too much or too little of it? How can I dial-back how oily it is?
Also, they mention rotating the 5 different shampoos regularly… but what does that mean exactly? Like use a different one every single day? Or use 1 for a week, then change to the 2nd one for week 2, then on week 3 use the 3rd product etc? How often is this rotation?
I’m almost desperate to do something to fix these results so I don’t feel so embarrassed at work and in public with hair slicked flat to my head, greasy looking daily. I hear people rub in and rinse apple cider vinegar or use Dr. Bronner’s miracle castile soap to strip out oil if they put too much product in or have oily hair, I just don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or just need to wait more…
Also, I’m wondering if maybe I would get more even coverage and reduced concentration of product if I mixed a squirt of the shampoo in a small cup of water, then poured it on the roots (massaging), rinse, then pour the rest and repeat rather than just squirting the shampoo directly onto my scalp? No lather makes it difficult to feel even coverage. I’m confused as to where all the oilyness comes from – if it’s the shampoo itself or the detoxing. It looks the worst closest to my head (bangs and top of head where you can see all the slick separating strands like it’s greasy).
Any ideas?
Hi Kristin! Yes, this is a normal part of the detoxing process. This process is quite individual, so there is really no way to say how long it will take. To help with the oily factor, I suggest adding ZEN DETOX weekly until you see the results you want. Do not use the Zen Detox for longer than three months consecutively.
As far as shampoo rotation: Rotate all five for maximum care โ Pine Shale today, Apple Cider Vinegar tomorrow, then Heavenly Chi, Sea Essence the next day, then Earth Essence, then back to Pine Shale Shampoo to continue the rotation cycle. For this phase, you should shampoo daily if you can. Once the detox phase is over, you can shampoo whenever you normally would and use a different shampoo each time you shampoo. I also suggest doing the two part cleansing method.
Step One: Wet your hair and apply shampoo to your scalp. Massage lightly into hair and scalp, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Step Two: After rinsing, take a bit more shampoo and massage it gently into clean hair and scalp. Rinse out carefully until no shampoo remains and finish with cool water. Towel dry.
I hope this helps!
Best wishes to you,
Jill
As far as shampoo rotation
Thank you Jill for your quick response. I’ll look into the Zen Detox… and I suppose I should be rotating shampoos starting ASAP, right? I only have the Sea Essence one now (which I’ve used 7 days in a row as a brand new user), so I’ll have to order the other 4 (which will take time to ship to me).
Hoping my detox won’t take too much longer. Currently the majority of hair upon brushing is full of static and very fly-away, while the rest on my head and bangs clings to my scalp greasily ๐ My fear is ordering the other 4 and finding out after prolonged use that it never changes… that somehow my hair type can’t deal with these shampoos (content is too oily or something) and will remain crappy: looking greasy indefinitely. My hair is normally good looking and has actual volume with cheap grocery store brands and also the better Nioxin stuff I was using until last week.
Just a few more quick questions (I’m a very detail oriented person)… for someone like me with shoulder length, fine hair, how much of the shampoo should I be using… like if I brought in an actual teaspoon measuring spoon into the shower, would I fill that up (and use that amount divided for my 2 step massage, rinse, reapply, rinse process?). Too much, too little? (also, what did you think of my idea to mix it with a cup of water to make application easier with pouring mixture onto the head/roots and massaging in?)
How long should 8 ounces of shampoo last me? Pretty soon I’ll have 5 bottles at 8oz each ($95+ later plus shipping)… so I’m hoping that would last me a LONG time. Think it would last me 6 months or more assuming I shampoo every day?
Thanks.
Kristin: You make shampooing sound like a science project. Go to MM’s website for info on using their products. It takes awhile getting use to the “no lather.” Use the Chi Instant Conditioner after shampooing and soon you won’t be able to tell the difference. Can’t comment on the grease problem although I use to shampoo daily but can now shampoo weekly.
Kristin, hi! I thought I would write a comment on your post as I was you 4 months ago and I basically have the exact same hair and I totally understand the need for detailed information when making this transition and I also understand how hard it is to find that info sometimes. MM’s website has A LOT of information but it is not necessarily easy to follow or understand, I also found that they themselves were not very helpful when I sent them questions. I hit a wall with them so I researched trying to find info and the most info I got in regards to the products and how to use them was from this blog and Jill.
I had the exact same experience as you at the beginning, I am now four months in and I am at the point where I do not use MM everyday, I can’t, it’s just too heavy for my hair and my scalp would be greasy right off the bat. I still have to wash my hair everyday as it gets greasy and oily so I use MM every 2nd or 3rd wash and I rotate that in with Living Libations Seabuckthorn Shampoo. You can ask Jill about this product but it is completely natural, organic and vegan and will definitely give you relief on the heavy oily. Their ShineON Conditioner is also very nice and I use that as well.
I would recommend sticking with MM for a bit longer, the detox period can be lengthy and is different for everyone but rotating in the Seabuckthorn will help you with the oil and make the transition easier. After about 3 months you should be able to tell if this product is for you. Also I know that the people at MM rave about the product but just keep in mind that a product isn’t right for everyone. I have recommended MM to several people and they have all had the same experience and frustrations and they have all different types of hair. It’s just about trying different things and finding something that works for you.
I hope this helps! Good Luck!
Thanks Jill for the response. I wasn’t too worried about the transitioning phase so I skipped the Zen Detox, is that okay? It’s just that chemical shampoo’s left my hair extremely dry and thinned so I knew I needed a change. Since I have received the Morrocco Method shampoo’s, I just have been rotating them everyday without using any regular conditioners and my hair feels a lot more smooth. I just wanted to try this for a few months to see if it makes any difference. I’m just trying to catch my thinning hair at it’s earliest stages instead of way later down the line. I heard it only gets harder the longer you wait? And as far as massaging, I mainly just do that when I rub the shampoo’s in or do circular motions with my finger tips where the hair has thinned the most.
Thanks so much Jill
Hi Vince, If you are getting the results you want from just the shampoos, then definitely keep doing what you’re doing. I always suggest beginning with Zen Detox for addressing hair loss because Zen Detox removes heavy metals and toxins that pollute scalp and hair follicles, blocking healthy hair growth. It’s a good idea to clear up the scalp first, and then treat. Yes, with hair loss, once it gets to a certain point, hair cannot continue to grow no matter what you do, so it is definitely best to address hair loss immediately while the follicles are still alive and active.
All the best to you!
Jill
Thank you. I am about 13 days in so far, would you still recommend the zen detox? Also, some of the shampoo’s i find not the best in scent after rinsing, is there anything i can do to cover up the smell of my hair after shampooing? I’m guessing maybe some sort of conditioner..
Hi Vince! Please see my previous comment to your question regarding the Zen Detox. Hmm. . . that’s surprising, I’ve never found that the MM shampoos leave any scent in the hair. None of the products are scented, so a conditioner won’t help. But, you could try a mixing an essential oil like Rosemary or Lavender into your shampoo or styling products, or one or two drops on your hand and directly onto your hair to get a scent that you like. Best wishes! Jill
Thanks Jennifer for your response. Always good to hear from people with similar experiences.
Question regarding the rotation of the shampoos. Before I knew anything about Morrocco Method, I had ordered just 1 bottle (Sea Essence) of shampoo and one spray on conditioner (the sapphire volumizer). I was 2 weeks into using these 2 products every day when I learned about the rotation, so I ordered the rest of the shampoo & conditioner line (including Zen Detox, boar bristle brushes, massager and more). The rest of these products are being shipped to me and still have not arrived – so by the time I get them I will have been using my Sea Essence single shampoo for 4 weeks straight.
My question is: is this a major setback? because I have read that if you just just 1 shampoo and don’t rotate the line, that your body will get used to it and it will basically become much less effective for you. How long would this process take? If it did become any less effective, once I start using the rest of the line as directed, will that fix the Sea Essence shampoo’s potential inneffectiveness?
I’ve also recently started shampooing ever 2nd day now and been pretty much ok. My hair was super greasy and oily looking upon starting 3 weeks ago, but now it has improved quite a bit and I believe adding in the rest of the products plus the proper brush will make a huge difference. I also ordered 3 jars of henna dye, so can’t wait to add that in; I’m medium blonde and want to go red-brown, so I got the red dye, light brown and medium brown to mix. Anthony says mix it 60% light brown, 30% red and 10% dark brown… hope that works! I have never in my life dyed my hair or used chemical treatments, bleaching, perms etc, so my hair should respond well. My only downfall is using regular grocery store crappy brand cheap shampoos all my life until I learned about MM a few weeks ago ๐
I’m also looking forward to trying the Zen Detox… I’m hoping to have a whole body detox as well because today I’m ordering a far infrared personal sauna (www.momentum98.com) that really helps everyone detox all the stuff out of their bodies through sweat and urine. Removes acid, chlorine, heavy metals etc, helps with skin problems and more. Always wanted one and this one seems to be the most effective on the market from what I’ve read (has a patented semiconductor chip technology). I think using the FIR sauna will really help me detox and with MM’s Zen Detox I’ll get the max experience.
I even switched my boyfriend to MM; we both used to have Nioxin shampoo and conditioner which contained sodium lauryl sulphate (much to his surprise). MM is definitely the best – you just have to have patience.
~ Kristin
i now using MM shampoo and conditioner but i am confuse because the shampoo is not like other shampoo,, MM has no bubble? is it natural? i feel that i am not shampoing ang not feel clean ? its like a conditoner?
Hi Cecille, Thanks for your comment. Yes, Morrocco Method Shampoos are very different from other shampoos. You are right, THEY DO NOT LATHER! BUT, they do clean your hair! Yes, the are 100% natural – the most natural shampoos out there. To find out more about them and how to use them, please read this article. You can also visit their website directly for even more information. Thanks so much. Best regards, Jill
I recently ordered the MM set of shampoos and with the first use my hair felt softer. Continued use has increased the softness and the volume, and my scalp feels squeaky clean. I do use about a tablespoon of product for each shampooing, twice each washing. I’ll probably cut down the amount of product I use each time once my hair and scalp are used to it.
Before using this product, I did already have a habit of daily scalp massage and upside-down hair brushing each night. I’ve also washed my hair only twice a week for a few years now, so don’t have a lot of problem with oil buildup.
I also enjoy the “fun” factor of washing my hair with the shampoo that corresponds to the day’s moon sign. My other shampoos didn’t let me do that. ๐
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the shampoos, Stephanie! I really appreciate it. I’m so glad you’re getting wonderful results! Enjoy and take care, Jill
Hi everyone!
I’ve been using MM for about two years now. At first I very nearly gave up as well. The results (initially) were terrible, and I almost couldn’t be seen in public. But wow, its worth sticking it out! I now take my own MM shampoo along to my stylist and she happily uses it in her salon with me. She says I have some of the strongest healthiest hair she has seen, and really it is naturally thin and very straight and flat.
If you sign up for their emails, you can find out when they have sales on, usually 25% (ish) off a product or two. I order a half dozen bottles of whatever is on sale and work my way through them. It will cost more than your store brands, but well worth the effort and money.
As for the detox period, I would say it took me a good month before I started seeing what I thought was consistently clean feeling hair and was happy with the product. Believe me, I nearly gave up, but it’s well worth your time and effort.
Good Luck!
Katherine,
When does Morrocco usually have 25% off? On Black Fridays or other holidays? Please let me know.
Hi Luda,
I don’t know when Morrocco Method has their own sales, but we usually have promotions on Morrocco Method products a couple times a year. Usually around May & November
Blessings!
Hi Jill,
I’m finally on the blog you referenced when I wrote about my concerns–hair not feeling clean. My hair is feeling clean, not oily anymore. However, I’m only switching back and forth between the Pine Shale and Essence. No where on the ordering site did it mention using all 5. Is it necessary to rotate among the 5 to achieve Optimum results? Also, you say that conditioners are not necessary but I have to use some conditioner (WEN product) because otherwise my hair is a big knotted mess.
Thanks!
Regina
Hi Regina, Thanks for visiting my blog and for getting in touch! I’m so glad that you’ve made it through the transition perod with the Morrocco Method shampoos. I found for myself that it was more than worth it! All of the shampoo product pages do mention mention rotating the shampoos, you can find the information in the product descriptions. For excellent results, rotate at least 3, for optimum results, yes rotate all 5. Conditioners are important, sometimes men or people with very short hair don’t need them with these shampoos, but and it is best to use the Morrocco Method conditioners, designed to go with these shampoos – either Chi Instant Hair Conditioner or Pearl Essence for a richer cream rinse. Wishing you well! Jill
I just started using this line and am wondering am I supposed to be using the shampoos in a specific order and on specific days? Or just as long as I’m rotating everytime it doesn’t matter what order?
Thanks!
Amanda
Hey Amanda!
Thanks for your question! For general use of the Morrocco Method shampoos, you do not need to use specific ones on specific days, just alternate with every wash. However if you’re trying to achieve a specific result with your hair, there are certain days of the month you can use certain shampoos to help get your hair to its goal. Specifically this month of February 2014:
Beautifying Hair: Use Heavenly Chi Shampoo & Pearl Essence Creme Rinse on the 1st & 2nd of this month.
Lengthening Hair: Use Sea Essence Shampoo and Euro Natural Oil on the 5th, 6th or 7th of this month.
Strengthen Hair: Use Pine Shale Shampoo & Diamond Crystal Mist on the 10th, 11th & 12th of this month.
Root & Scalp Health: Use Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo and Zen Detox on the 20th and 21st of this month.
Thicken Hair: Use Earth Essence Shampoo & Chi Instant Conditioner on the 24th and 25th of this month.
You can see the Lunar Hair Chart on Morrocco Method’s site each month for optimized days for your hair goals
Hi Jill! I had a question regarding the sea buckthorn shampoo. It’s the one from living libations right? I recently started using MM and am going through the detox period. I only purchased the apple cider vinegar shampoo and the heavenly chi shampoo along with the pearl conditioner. I want to get the sea buckthorn shampoo to help relieve the oil buildup but I was wondering if you think it would be safe to use during pregnancy because of the rosemary, peppermint, and sage. I am currently in my third trimester. Do you think it would be safe for me to use since it’s just shampoo?
Hi Megan! Thanks for your question! Yes it would be safe for you to use in your 3rd trimester. Since you are not ingesting or applying it to your skin to absorb there should be no affect. Of course, mamma knows best though, and if you’re not sure you’re comfortable, just go with your instincts
Blessings and congratulations on your pregnancy!
Alicia
Hi,
I know it’s been a while since you posted this article, but I would love to ask if anyone knows for sure (by experience) if the Morrocco Method shampoos are okay to use with color treated hair? I assume all the shampoos without sulfates should be okay (besides the Pine Shale, which has something called sulfated shale oil). That one seems kind of iffy to me.
Thanks for any info and for writing this post way back when. LOL!
Hi Marlene!
Thanks for your question! All the the Morrocco Method products are safe to use on color treated hair!
Even the Pine Shale! Everyhting is made from wildcrafted & organic ingredients so they are completely safe & gentle but very effective
Blessings,
Alicia
Marlene,
I also have concerns about Morrocco Method Pine Shale Shampoo. Which Environmental Working Group compared to other Morrocco shampoos http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/search.php?query=morrocco+shampoo the Pine Shale shampoo found that SHALE OILS, CRUDE has rating of 4 for cancer. To view specific link here:
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/508364/Morrocco_Method_Int%27l_Pine_Shale_Shampoo_Air/
EWG scientists reviewed Morrocco Method Int’l Pine Shale Shampoo Air for safety according to the methodology outlined in their Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. They assess the ingredients listed on the labels of personal care products based on data in toxicity and regulatory databases, government and health agency assessments and the open scientific literature. EWG’s rating for Morrocco Method Int’l Pine Shale Shampoo Air is 1.
Hi :-). I’m new to MM, it’s been about 3 weeks now. I have hair that is a little below shoulder length, fine but have a lot of it. My hair is extremely greasy and built-up feeling at this point (detoxing heavily I’m guessing). I’ve been washing it every other day or so with just a couple teaspoons of shampoo diluted and shaken in a plastic squirt bottle. I’ve done 2 Zen detoxes so far. And I’ve also been brushing daily once or twice (my hair looks even worse after this, lol). I’ve learned from other posts on this blog that maybe I should be washing it every day at this heavy detox point and be using a lot more shampoo with each washing. I was actually “trying” not to wash it too often thinking that was what was best for my hair, but every day is OK to get me through this period? Is a Zen detox twice a week (or more) ever indicated for lots of grease and build-up removal? Also, what about this buckthorne shampoo that I’ve read about, does MM sell that, I didn’t see it? Rotating that in like every 3-5 shampoos or so, would that be OK and not “strip” the hair? And finally, I have the marigold henna in hand to try, but should I wait until after this heavy oiliness/gunk is gone, as I’m just concerned the henna won’t stick to my hair it’s soooo greasy!
Thanks for any comments that anyone may have. I’m determined. I’m not going to give up any time soon :-). Christy.
Hi Christy,
Thanks for your questions! You could still be going through a detox, but here are some ways you can deal with an oily/greasy scalp and hair:
– Wash TWICE. The first time will loosen any debris or oil that is in your hair, the second will wash it away. Because you are mixing the shampoo with water, you aren’t using significantly more shampoo.
– Do an apple cider vinegar rinse (100% organic acv) as a second shampoo to clear away build up and to help restore your scalp’s pH balance. Try doing it every other day instead of once a week.
– Do a Zen Detox once a week for 3 weeks, rest one week then repeat until your scalp begins to balance out again.
– Use the Earth Essence Shampoo in your rotation more often.
– Brush, brush, brush! Keep on brushing: Daily brushing of the hair and scalp (2-3 times a day): Far more cleansing than any commercial, artificial shampoo; Eliminates waste materials- deposits of uric acid crystals, catarrh and other acids and impurities that build up and become encrusted on the scalp; Stimulates the capillaries, increasing blood circulation and the transport of oxygen and nutrients to the hair stem, root and bulb; Stimulates hormone- and oil- producing glands, which keeps the pores of the hair and scalp open, allowing them to breathe and retain their natural oils
I would wait to do henna until your hair begins to normalize. The oils may interfere with the dying process. The Seabuckthorn Shampoo we carry is not a Morrocco Method product, but its by Living Libations and its a great item! This could also be used as your second shampoo product! Hi Jill or Alicia,
Read this blog & have some questions & concerns about Morrocco Method Pine Shale Shampoo.
On EWG (Environmental Working Group) scientists reviewed Morrocco Method Int’l Pine Shale Shampoo Air for safety according to the methodology outlined in their Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. They assess the ingredients listed on the labels of personal care products based on data in toxicity and regulatory databases, government and health agency assessments and the open scientific literature. EWG’s rating for Morrocco Method Int’l Pine Shale Shampoo Air is 1.
Two QUESTIONS:
1. On this site: http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/search.php?query=morrocco+shampoo (at the end of page, be sure to click on 2nd page as well) seems like there is new & OLD PRODUCT of Morrocco Method shampoos. In OLD PRODUCT, especially in OLD PRODUCT Pine Shale Shampoo company seems like used to make with more chemicals that caused: Cancer, Multiple, additive exposure sources, Miscellaneous; Other MODERATE concerns: Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive); Other LOW concerns: Data gaps, Occupational hazards especially the OLD PRODUCT of Pine Shale Shampoo:
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/473113/Morrocco_Method_Int%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%E2%84%A2l_Pine_Shale_Shampoo_%C3%A2%E2%82%AC%E2%80%9C_Air_%28old_formulation%29/
So my question is: your company no longer makes or sells (or distributes to retail stores) the OLD PRODUCT Pine Shale Product, only the NEW one with less hazards to health – correct?
2. Also, now lets look at the NEWER PRODUCT of Morrocco Method Pine Shale Shampoo, EWG scientists found that NEWER PRODUCT of Morrocco Method Pine Shale Shampoo contains SHALE OILS, CRUDE which has rating of 4 for cancer. Here is the link:
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/508364/Morrocco_Method_Int%27l_Pine_Shale_Shampoo_Air/
So my question is: why use Shale Oils in your shampoo that have moderate risk of contributing to cancer?
IF we were to compare the Morrocco Method Pine Shale Shampoo to Morrocco Method Heavenly Chi Shampoo, the Heavenly Chi Shampoo has absolutely no risk or concerns of any kind.
http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/461638/Morrocco_Method_Int%27l_Heavenly_Chi_Shampoo%2C_Ether/
Why not make ALL shampoos that have absolutely no any kind of hazards to health (including cancer) ?
I would very much like to get more information about this mather from Morrocco Method company.
Sorry for my late response Luda! I wanted to talk directly to Morrocco Method about this issue since they would know the most about this! I think their answer will put your mind at ease! The ingredient listed on EWG is actually the completely incorrect ingredient. They have contacted them multiple times to get it changed, but they are extremely slow to change things on their website. Shale Oil and Pale Sulfonated Shale Oil are actually completely different ingredients. The Shale Oil is actually a tar, which is why when we list Pale Sulfonated Shale Oil on our ingredients list on the website we put NOT A TAR. It is somewhat frustrating that EWG has not changed to the correct ingredient. Pale Sulfonated Shale Oil is completely natural and non toxic. Let me know if you have further questions or concerns!
Blessings,
Alicia
Well, I hate to say this, but I have been using MM for 5, almost 6 months now and I am just about ready to give up! My hair looks so bad.. I’ve used the Zen Detox, used the red henna twice and still it looks bad. I’ve emailed MM, used their forum. It’s just not getting better. Perhaps it just isn’t for everyone.
Hi Brenda,
Thanks for your comment. I’m sorry to hear you’re unhappy with the Morrocco Method hair system. Are you sure you’re using the products correctly? Morrocco Method Shampoos are incredibly concentrated and sometimes it can be tough making sure the shampoo is getting to your scalp and really cleansing โ especially with thicker hair. We suggest diluting your shampoo in a smaller bottle with 50% shampoo and 50% water. Then, pour the mixture all over you head and massage into your scalp. You’ll be able to make sure your scalp is getting the raw nutrients from the shampoos, plus it’s the perfect time for a scalp massage. A perfect shampoo is achieved in two parts. The first shampooing cleanses hair and scalp of dirt, dead cells, and dust โ which would otherwise be massaged back into the hair, scalp, and follicle openings if only shampooed once. This clogging debris could retard new hair growth and severely damage the oil glands, upsetting the natural hair fall and reproductive cycles of your hair.
Dry, rough, frizzy hair is a result of constant heat damage or chemical relaxers, perms, treatments or dyes. It may also be a result of damage from friction, and improper cutting technique. Make sure you are brushing daily. The brushing will bring the sebaceous oils from your scalp and spread them to the tips of your hair. You may also want to give your hair a Euro Natural Oil treatment.
For those that have gone through extensive damage to their hair, and are experiencing a particularly rough detox we recommend using the Zen Detox Hair & Scalp Therapy once a week for three weeks in order to remove toxins from the hair and scalp while conditioning each strand. This incredible clay hair mask, made specifically to pull toxins and heavy metals from the hair, helps to detoxify the hair and scalp and quicken the detox process.
I hope some of these tips help get your hair on track! If you feel in the end the Morrocco Method system is still not for you, give the Living Libations shampoo & conditioner a try!
